Ο Όσιος Ιωάννης ο ψάλτης ο καλούμενος Κουκουζέλης

 

Άριστος    μουσικός    και    καλλικέλαδος.

Καταγόταν    από    το    Δυρράχιο  και  υπήρξε  στα  χρόνια  των  Κομνηνών,   και    ήταν    ορφανός    από     πατέρα.    Η    ευσεβής μητέρα του   όμως,  έδωσε   την   ευκαιρία    στο    παιδί   της    να     μάθει    τα  ιερά  γράμματα,  το οποίο, επειδή  ήταν πολύ έξυπνο και πολύ καλλίφωνο,   όλοι     το   φώναζαν    αγγελόφωνο.

Σε    κατάλληλη   ηλικία   κατέφυγε    στο    Άγιον    Όρος,    όπου    μόνασε  στο    κελί   των  Αρχαγγέλων  της  Μεγίστης   Λαύρας.   Έψαλε   στην Μεγίστη   Λαύρα    μαζί    με   τον   Γρηγόριο    Δομέστικο,   που   τιμάται την   ίδια   ημέρα.     
Έτσι   οσιακά   αφού    έζησε   ο    Ιωάννης,   ψάλλοντας   θεσπέσιους  ύμνους   προς    τον   Θεό,    απεβίωσε   ειρηνικά    στις    αρχές    του    15^ου  αιώνα    και    τάφηκε   στο    κελί    που    μόναζε.

Η  ηδύφωνος   χάρις   Πάτερ   της   γλώττης    σου,  κατακηλεί   και  ευφραίνει την  Εκκλησίαν  Χριστού·  συ  γαρ   ένθους   υμνῳδός   ώφθης μακάριε·   όθεν   νομίσματι   χρυσώ,   σε  ημείψατο   λαμπρώς,    η Άχραντος   Θεοτόκος,   ήν     Ιωάννη    δυσώπει,   ελεηθήναι    τας    ψυχάς  ημών.

Της    Λαύρας   τα θρέμματα, και  ηδυφώνους  αυλούς,  ως   θείους θεράποντας, και  υμνολόγους  Χριστού, συμφώνως αινέσωμεν, ύμνοις  τον  Κουκουζέλην,   και  κλεινόν  Ιωάννην, άμα   συν  Γρηγορίω, τω  σοφώ  Δομεστίκω·   Χριστόν  γαρ  ικετεύουσιν,   υπέρ  των  ψυχών   ημών.

Την  δυάδα   μέλψωμεν,   των   θεοφόρων   Πατέρων,   Ιωάννην    άπαντες,  συν   τω  κλεινώ    Γρηγορίω·   ούτοι   γαρ,   ώδε   βιώσαντες    θεοφρόνως,  ήνεσαν, λόγω  και έργω  τον  πάντων  Κτίστην·  ώ  πρεσβεύουσιν  απαύστως,   ημίν   δοθήναι,  πταισμάτων   άφεσιν.

 Χαίροις  ευφωνίας  αγγελικής,  ηδύφωνος  τέττιξ,  και  καλλίφωνος  αηδών·   χαίροις   Ιωάννη,  χάριτος  θείας  σκεύος, και  Μοναστών  του  Άθω,    ως     έμπνουν    όργανον.

Χαίρετε    της    Λαύρας  θείοι     βλαστοί,   και     του    Παρακλήτου,    αι  κιθάραι  αιμυστικαί·  χαίροις  Ιωάννη,  ομού  συν    Γρηγορίω,    της    μονής  Θεοτόκου,    θείοι    θεράποντες.

An excellent musician and belle.

He came from Dyrrachium and lived in the years of the Komnenos, and was an orphan from his father. His pious mother, however, gave her child the opportunity to learn the sacred letters, which, because he was very intelligent and very eloquent, everyone called him an angelic.

At an appropriate age, he fled to Mount Athos, where he became a monk in the cell of the Archangels of the Great Lavra. He sang in the Great Lavra together with Grigorios Domesticos, who is honored on the same day.

Thus after John had lived, singing divine hymns to God, he died peacefully at the beginning of the 15th century and was buried in the solitary cell.

Another absolutist, then common, of Saint Gregory. Sound d'. He quickly realized.

Of the Lavra's thremata, and ediphonous courts, as divine healers, and hymn writers of Christ, let us praise together, sing hymns to Koukouzelin, and close John, if with Gregory, to the wise Domesticus; for they beseech Christ, for our souls.

Let us pray to the pair of God-fearing Fathers, John all, together with Gregory the cloistered; thus, while living God-fearing, they were, by word and deed, the Creator of all things; O faithful ambassadors, we are given, let them forgive sins.

 Hail to the euphonium of the angelic voice, the deafening tettix, and the caliphon of the blasphemers; Hail to John, the grace of the divine vessel, and to the Monks of Athos, who play the instrument.
