Ο Άγιος Λουκιανός ο Ιερομάρτυρας Πρεσβύτερος της Εκκλησίας της Αντιοχείας

 

Γεννήθηκε   στα   Σαμόσατα της Συρίας  από   γονείς   ευσεβείς,   και    με ανάλογο   τρόπο    ανατράφηκε.

Μετά  τον  θάνατο  των  γονέων   του,   διαμοίρασε   στους   φτωχούς   την πατρική   του περιουσία και  αφοσιώθηκε στην μελέτη των  θείων  Γραφών,  διότι στην σκέψη του επικρατούσαν τα λόγια του Απ. Παύλου:   «Πάσα γραφή  θεόπνευστος και  ωφέλιμος προς διδασκαλίαν, προς έλεγχον,  προς  επανόρθωσιν,  προς   παιδείαν  την  εν  δικαιοσύνη». Δηλαδή,   όλη  η  Γραφή έχει  εμπνευσθεί   από   τον   Θεό.  Γι’ αυτό   είναι  ωφέλιμη   για  να  διδάσκει την  αλήθεια,  να  ελέγχει  τις πλάνες, να διορθώνει  αυτούς    που   αμαρτάνουν    και    να  παιδαγωγεί  στην  αρετή.

Κατόρθωσε,  λοιπόν,  και  ο  Λουκιανός  να  γίνει  βαθύς γνώστης  της  Αγίας   Γραφής   και   χειροτονήθηκε   πρεσβύτερος    στην    Αντιόχεια. Εκεί   δίδασκε   με    θάρρος   και   ακρίβεια    το  θείο λόγο,  ενθαρρύνοντας  τους  χριστιανούς στο  μαρτύριο. Στην Αντιόχεια, μάλιστα,   ίδρυσε σχολή, όπου φοίτησαν αρκετοί  μαθητές, καταρτιζόμενοι  στα    χριστιανικά   δόγματα και   στην   άσκηση   της  αρετής.

Όταν  ο Λουκιανός  έμαθε ότι  στη  Νικομήδεια  ο  Διοκλητιανός καταδίωκε  και   θανάτωνε  τους  χριστιανούς,  άφησε   την   Αντιόχεια   και  πήγε  στη  Νικομήδεια  για  να  στηρίξει  και   να   ενισχύσει   τους Χριστιανούς   στο   μαρτύριο.          
Συνελήφθη,  όμως,  από   τον   Διοκλητιανό    και  κλείστηκε  στην  φυλακή,   όπου    και    πέθανε   από   πείνα.

Θείω   Πνεύματι,   λελαμπρυσμένος,   γνώσιν   ένθεον,   εταμιεύσω,   και  της   πίστεως   τον   λόγον   ετράνωσας·  όθεν  Μαρτύρων αλείπτης γενόμενος,   Λουκιανέ  εν  αθλήσει  ηρίστευσας.   Μάρτυς   ένδοξε, Χριστόν    τον   Θεόν   ικέτευε,  δωρήσασθαι   ημίν   το    μέγα   έλεος.

Ως   ερμηνεύς  των  ζωηφόρων  ρημάτων,  και  ιερεύς  των  του   Θεού μυστηρίων,   Λουκιανέ   θεόληπτε ενήθλησας  στερρώς·  όθεν  το  εσώτερον,   καταπέτασμα   Μάρτυς,   χαίρων   διελήλυθας,  και    Χριστού  τω   προσώπω,  ενεφανίσθης  πάντοτε  ημίν,  τοις  σε  τιμώσιν,  αυτόν ιλεούμενος.

Άρτω   διαθρέψας  πνευματικώ, πιστών τας καρδίας, ως του λόγου διανομεύς,   λιμώ καταισχύνεις,  τον λιχνοβόρον  όφιν,  Λουκιανέ  αθλήσας,   καθάπερ  άσαρκος.

 

Saint Lucian the Hieromartyr Elder of the Church of Antioch

 

 

He was born in Samosata, Syria, of pious parents, and brought up accordingly.

After the death of his parents, he distributed his father's property to the poor and devoted himself to the study of the Holy Scriptures, because the words of the Apostle Paul prevailed in his thinking: "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for checking, for correction, for educate her in justice". That is, all Scripture is inspired by God. That is why it is useful for teaching the truth, checking errors, correcting those who sin and educating in virtue.

Thus, Lucian also managed to become a deep connoisseur of the Holy Bible and was ordained an elder in Antioch. There he taught the divine word with courage and precision, encouraging the Christians to martyrdom. In Antioch, in fact, he founded a school, where several students attended, training in Christian doctrines and the practice of virtue.

When Lucian learned that in Nicomedia Diocletian was persecuting and killing the Christians, he left Antioch and went to Nicomedia to support and strengthen the Christians in the martyrdom.

However, he was arrested by Diocletian and imprisoned, where he starved to death.
