Ο Όσιος Γεράσιμος ο νέος ασκητής, ο Πελοποννήσιος (Μνήμη ανακομιδής ιερών λειψάνων του)

 


He was born in 1509 in Trikala , Corinth. He came from the official family of Notaras and was son of Demetrius and the Good.                                              

From small took Christian and aristocratic upbringing and excelled in school for the ingenuity and the intelligence of the mind of. Gentle soul by Gerasimos liked their poor peers of and their help in every way.                                                                               

When   arrived   at   mature age, he toured various parts, such as the island of Zakynthos, the Istanbul and the surrounding of this, the Mount Athos, various monasteries of the East to stay in Jerusalem. There he served as a nun for a year in the Church of the Resurrection and was ordained a Deacon and later                                                                                                             Elder,   by   the   Patriarch of   Jerusalem Germanos.

Then he left and from there and came to the location Omala of Cephalonia, where he built female monastery and named it New Jerusalem. In this Monastery , after living ascetically and developing great virtues, helping spiritually and materially the inhabitants of Kefalonia, he passed away peacefully on 15                                                                                                   August of 1579, at the age of about 70 years. (Mainly that the day is celebrated the memory of disposing of holy relics of the 1580 to 1581).

Της    ομολογίας    Χριστιανών,    έθετόσε   σε    στύλον,    αδιάσειστον     ο  Θεός,    το   σεπτόν    σου    σκήνος,    Γεράσιμε    δους    πάσι,   τοις  εναντίοις    λίθον,    δεινού  προσκόμματος.

When he reached adulthood, he toured various places, such as Zakynthos, Constantinople and the surrounding area, Mount Athos, various Monasteries of the East to stay in Jerusalem. There he served as a nun for a year in the Church of the Resurrection and was ordained a Deacon and later an Elder, by the German Patriarch of Jerusalem.

Then he left there and ended up in the location of Omala in Kefalonia, where he built a nunnery and named it New Jerusalem. In this Monastery, after living ascetically and developing great virtues, helping spiritually and materially the inhabitants of Kefalonia, he died peacefully on August 15, 1579, at the age of about 70 years.

(Mainly on this day, the memory of the resurrection of his holy relics in 1580-81 is celebrated).
