Ο Άγιος Συμεών ο Αδελφόθεος Επίσκοπος Ιεροσολύμων

 

Ο Άγιος  Ιερομάρτυρας Συμεών, αναδείχθηκε διάδοχος  του  Αγίου  Ιακώβου   του  Αδελφοθέου   (†  το  62 μ.Χ.),  μετά  την  καταστροφή  της  Ιερουσαλήμ    από   τους    Ρωμαίους  το    70   μ.Χ.

Κατά   τον    Ηγήσιππο   ήταν   υιός   του   Κλωπά,   αδελφού   του   Ιωσήφ   και αδελφός   του   Ιούδα.  Κατά  άλλη  διεκδοχή  ήταν υιός του Ιωσήφ  του Μνήστορος    και    αδελφός    του    Αγίου    Ιακώβου    του    Αδελφοθέου.

Ενώ    επισκόπευε   στην  Ιερουσαλήμ,  επί  αυτοκράτορος  Τραϊανού   (98 – 117 μ.Χ.),  διαβλήθηκε   από   τους   αιρετικούς   στον    ύπατο   Αττικό   για   τον αποστολικό του   ζήλο.   Ο   Συμεών   κατηγορήθηκε  όχι   από  Χριστιανούς αιρετικούς,  αλλά  από  Ιουδαίους.  Η   κατηγορία περιελάμβανε  δύο   σκέλη.  Το   ένα   ήταν   ότι   καταγόταν    από   το   γένος   Δαβίδ   και  το άλλο ότι  ήταν Χριστιανός.  Αφού συνελήφθη, βασανίσθηκε  σκληρά   και   στην   συνέχεια οδηγήθηκε  σε  σταυρικό   θάνατο, το  έτος  107  μ.Χ.,  σε  ηλικία  εκατόν  είκοσι   ετών.
Στους Παρισινούς Κώδικες βρίσκεται Ακολουθία του Αγίου Συμεών, ποίημα    του    υμνογράφου    Θεοφάνους.

Χριστού σε συγγενή, Συμεών Ιεράρχα, και Μάρτυρα στερρόν, ιερώς ευφημούμεν,   την   πλάνην   ολέσαντα,   και   την  πίστιν   τηρήσαντα· όθεν σήμερον, την  παναγίαν σου μνήμην, εορτάζοντες, αμαρτημάτων την λύσιν,  ευχαίς   σου  λαμβάνομεν.

 

Κοντάκιον.  Ήχος  δ’.   Επεφάνης   σήμερον.

Ως αστέρα μέγιστον η Εκκλησία, κεκτημένη σήμερον, τον θεηγόρον Συμεών, φωταγωγείται κραυγάζουσα· χαίροις Μαρτύρων σεπτόν   ακροθίνιον.

Της άνω Σιών, πολίτης γενόμενος, της κάτω Σιών, τον θρόνον   εγκεχείρισαι, και  καλώς το ποίμνιον, οδηγήσας προς  μάνδραν   ουράνιον,   εσταυρώθης   Χριστώ  Συμεών,  το  θείον  πάθος  αυτού μιμησάμενος.

 

Μεγαλυνάριον.
Συγγενής  υπάρχων   ω   Συμεών,  του   μέχρι   και   δούλου,  κενωθέντος   υπέρ ημών, σύμμορφος και μάρτυς, παθών αυτού εδείχθης, παγείς ως ο Δεσπότης,   Σταυρώ  μακάριε.

 

 

 

Saint Simeon the Brotherhood Bishop of Jerusalem

 

Saint Hieromartyr of Symeon was succeeded by Saint James the Brotherhood (62 62 AD), after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD.

According to Hegesippus, he was the son of Clopas, Joseph's brother, and Judas' brother. Another claim was the son of Joseph the Master and brother of St. James the Brotherhood.

While in Jerusalem under Emperor Trajan (98 - 117 AD), he was persecuted by heretics in the high Attic for his apostolic zeal. Symeon was accused not by Christian heretics but by Jews. The category had two parts. One was that he came from the genus David and the other was Christian. After being arrested, he was severely tortured and then led to a crucifixion, in the year 107 AD, at the age of one hundred and twenty.

In the Parisian Codes is the sequence of Saint Symeon, a poem by the hymnographer Theophanes.
