Ο Προφήτης Ζαχαρίας

 

Ο  Ζαχαρίας, πατέρας του  Ιωάννη  του  Βαπτιστή,  έζησε  στα  χρόνια  του Ηρῴδη,  βασιλιά  της  Ιουδαίας. Κατά  τη  γνώμη  του  Χρυσοστόμου,  καθώς και  άλλων  Πατέρων  της  Εκκλησίας,  οΖαχαρίας  δεν  ήταν  απλός  ιερέας, αλλά  αρχιερέας  που  έμπαινε  στα  Άγια  των  Αγίων.

Σύζυγο  είχε  την  Ελισάβετ  και  δεν  είχαν παιδί. Κάποια μέρα λοιπόν, την ώρα του  θυμιάματος  μέσα  στοθυσιαστήριο,  είδε  άγγελο  Κυρίου που  του ανήγγειλε ότι θα αποκτούσε γιο και  θα  ονομαζόταν  Ιωάννης.  Ο  Ζαχαρίας σκίρτησε από χαρά, αλλά δυσπίστησε. Η  γυναίκα του ήταν στείρα και  γριά, πως θα γινόταν  αυτόπου  άκουγε;  Τότε  ο  άγγελος  του  είπε ότι  θα  μείνει κωφάλαλος  μέχρι  να πραγματοποιηθεί  η  βουλή  του  Θεού.

Πράγματι, η  Ελισάβετ συνέλαβε και  έκανε  γιό.  Όταν  θέλησαν  ναδώσουν όνομα στο παιδί, ο Ζαχαρίας έγραψε πάνω σε πινακίδιο  το  όνομα  Ιωάννης. Αμέσως δε λύθηκε η γλώσσα του και όλοι μαζί δόξασαν το Θεό.
Βέβαια, η  χάρη  αυτή  έγινε  από  το  Θεό  στον Ζαχαρία, διότι  ήταν «δίκαιος ενώπιον  του  Θεού, πορευόμενος  εν  πάσαις  ταις  εντολαίς και δικαιώμασι του Κυρίου άμεμπτος». Ήταν, δηλαδή, δίκαιος μπροστάστον Θεό και  ζούσε σύμφωνα με τις εντολές και τα  παραγγέλματα  τουΚυρίου,  άμεμπτος  από κάθε  σοβαρή  ενοχή.

Ιερωσύνηςστολισμόν, περιβαλλόμενος  σοφέ, κατά τον νόμον του  Θεού, ολοκαυτώματα δεκτά, ιεροπρεπώς προσενήνοχας Ζαχαρία· και γεγονός φωστήρ, και θεατής μυστικών, τα σύμβολα εν σοι, τα της χάριτος, φέρων εκδήλως πάνσοφε, καιξίφει αναιρεθείς εν τω ναώ του Θεού· Χριστού Προφήτα,  συν  τω  Προδρόμω, πρέσβευε  σωθήναι  τας  ψυχάς  ημών.

Θείου Πνεύματος, τη επιπνοία, ιεράτευσας, Θεώ αμέμπτως, ιερωσύνηννομικήνενδυσάμενος·  και  τον  Σωτήρα  ασπόρωςσαρκούμενον, Ανατολήν την εξ ύψους εκήρυξας. Αλλά πρέσβευε, Ζαχαρία Προφήτα ένδοξε, δωρήσασθαι  ημίν  τομέγαέλεος.

ΟΠροφήτης  σήμερον,  και  ιερεύς του  Υψίστου, Ζαχαρίας  προύθηκεν,  ο  του Προδρόμου γενέτης, τράπεζαν, της αυτού μνήμης πιστούς  εκτρέφων, πόμα τε, δικαιοσύνης τούτοις κεράσας. Διο τούτον ευφημούμεν, ως θείον μύστην, Θεού  της χάριτος.

Χρίσμα κατάνόμον περιβληθείς, Θεώ τας λατρείας, αναφέρεις τας τυπικάς, και  την  των συμβόλων, φανέρωσινκηρύξας,  Προφήτα  Ζαχαρία, ξίφειεκτέτμησαι.

 

The Prophet Zechariah

 

Zacharias, father of John the Baptist, lived in the years of Herod, king of Judea. In the opinion of Chrysostom, as well as other Fathers of the Church, Zacharias was not a simple priest, but a high priest who entered the Holy of Holies.

He had a wife Elizabeth and they had no child. So one day, at the time of incense in the altar, he saw an angel of the Lord who announced to him that he would have a son and he would be named John. Zacharias squealed with joy, but was in disbelief. His wife was barren and old, how could it be that he was listening? Then the angel told him that he would remain deaf and dumb until God's will was done.

Indeed, Elizabeth conceived and gave birth to a son. When they wanted to name the child, Zacharias wrote the name John on a sign. Immediately his tongue was untied and all together glorified God.

Of course, this grace was given by God to Zacharias, because he was "righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and judgments of the Lord blameless". That is, he was righteous before God and lived according to the Lord's commands and orders, blameless of any serious guilt.

Priestly adornment, clothed with wisdom, according to the law of God, burnt offerings accepted, sacrificially prophesying Zacharias; and fact fosterer, and seer of secrets, the symbols in you, those of grace, bearing manifestly all-wise, and sword undone in the temple of God; Prophet of Christ, together with the Precursor, pray that our souls may be saved.

Of the Divine Spirit, the inspiration, priestess, God blameless, priestly and lawfully clothed; and the Saviour, incarnated with seeds, proclaiming the East from on high. But he preached, Zacharias the glorious Prophet, bestow upon us the great mercy.

Today's prophet, and priest of the Most High, Zacharias pruthiken, the progenitor of the Forerunner, bank, of his memory faithful nurturers, poma, this cherry of righteousness. For this reason, he is praised as the divine mystery, the God of grace.
