Ο Άγιος Ῥωμανός ο Μάρτυρας από την Παλαιστίνη

 

Ήταν    Διάκονος   της   Εκκλησίας   στην   Καισαρεία   της   Παλαιστίνης   και μαρτύρησε   στα   χρόνια   του   Διοκλητιανού   το   298   στην   Αντιόχεια.  Αυτός λοιπόν   ενθάρρυνε  τους   Χριστιανούς,   κατά   την   διάρκεια   του   μαρτυρίου   να ομολογούν   τον   Χριστό.

Τότε   αμέσως    συνελήφθη   και   καταδικάστηκε  να καεί  ζωντανός. Ο Διοκλητιανός   όμως,   διέταξε   να   του   κόψουν   τη   γλώσσα.   Αλλά   ο   Άγιος,   δια θαύματος   μιλούσε και  ενθάρρυνε   τους   χριστιανούς   ακόμα   εντονότερα.

Μπροστά   σ’  αυτή   την   κατάσταση,   τον   φυλάκισαν   και   μέσα   στη   φυλακή τον  έπνιξαν,   τυλίγοντας    σφιχτά   στον   λαιμό   του   ένα   σχοινί   και   έτσι   έλαβε   το   στεφάνι   του   μαρτυρίου.   
(Διαπιστώνουμε    εδώ,   ότι   το   μαρτύριο   του   Αγίου   αυτού   συγχέεται   με   αυτό του   Αγίου   Ῥωμανού   που   εορτάζει   την   ίδια   ημέρα   και   πολύ  πιθανόν   να πρόκειται  για   το   ίδιο  πρόσωπο).

 

Saint Roman the Martyr from Palestine

 

He was a Deacon of the Church in Caesarea in Palestine and was martyred in the years of Diocletian in 298 in Antioch. So he encouraged the Christians, during the martyrdom, to confess Christ.

He was then immediately arrested and sentenced to be burned alive. Diocletian, however, ordered that his tongue be cut out. But the Saint miraculously spoke and encouraged the Christians even more intensely.

Faced with this situation, they imprisoned him and in the prison they strangled him, wrapping a rope tightly around his neck and thus he received the crown of martyrdom.

(We find here, that the martyrdom of this Saint is confused with that of Saint Ῥomanos who celebrates on the same day and it is very likely that it is the same person).
