Ο Άγιος Ούαρος ο Μάρτυρας

 

Μέτοχος  της θερμής  και  γενναίας πίστης,  που  ανθίζει  και  θαυματουργεί   στους   μεγάλους    αγώνες    και    στις  σκληρές δοκιμασίες  της  Εκκλησίας,  ο   Ούαρος,   ήταν   στρατιώτης   από    τα Τύανα  στα  χρόνια των  διωγμών  επί Διοκλητιανού. Εκτελούσε καθήκοντα  φρουρού  στις   φυλακές,  όπου   έκλειναν   χριστιανούς.  Τα  παθήματά  τους  τον  έθλιβαν  και  η γενναιότητά τους άναβε περισσότερο  την  πίστη   του.   Ήταν    και    αυτός    χριστιανός,    αλλά    οι    ανώτεροί  του    και    οι    συστρατιώτες    του   δεν   το   ήξεραν. Επομένως   δεν   υπήρχε  εναντίον  του   καμία υποψία και επωφελούμενος  απ’  αυτό  κατόρθωνε  να  φέρνει  τροφές  στους  μάρτυρες,   να    τους    ενισχύει    και    να    τους   παρηγορεί.

Κάποτε   έφεραν    στην   φυλακή   έξι   πιστούς    σεβάσμιους    ασκητές. Ήταν    και    έβδομος,   αλλά   πέθανε  στον   δρόμο   λόγω   γήρατος    από   τις   κακουχίες.   Οι    έγκλειστοι   αυτοί,   με    τη    φυσιογνωμία    των  λόγων  και   των   τρόπων    τους,   επηρέασαν  πολύ   την   ψυχή    του  Ουάρου,    ώστε   θέλησε  να  πεθάνει μαζί  τους. Όταν  λοιπόν   τους ρώτησε   ο  δικαστής  που   είναι  ο  εβδομος   σύντροφός   τους,   ο    Ούαρος    φώναξε   «ιδού  εγώ».  Και  συγχρόνως   άρχισε   να    διακηρύττει    ότι    είναι   Χριστιανός.

Μάταια  προσπάθησαν   οι   αξιωματικοί   του   να   τον   μεταπείσουν. Αυτός  παρακαλούσε   τους   ασκητές,   να   προσευχηθούν   στον   Θεό   να του   δώσει   δύναμη  ν’ αντέξει  στα  βασανιστήρια  που  ήταν πολύ  άγρια.  Τελικά   νίκησε.  Πέθανε   χωρίς   ν’ αλλαξοπιστήσει.   Την επομένη    κόπηκαν   και    τα   κεφάλια   των   ασκητών.           
Τη    νύχτα    χριστιανικά    χέρια,  έθαψαν  ευλαβικά   τους  επτά  μάρτυρες   της    πίστης.

Των   Μαρτύρων   ζηλώσας   τα   κατορθώματα,    μαρτυρικώς   ηγωνίσω υπέρ   της   δόξης    Χριστού,   και    καθείλες   τον   εχθρόν   παμμάκαρ   Ούαρε·  εν  γαρ ικρίω προσδεθείς, προς τω ξύλω της ζωής, νομίμως αποκατέστης,   πρεσβευτική    χορηγία,   καταφαιδρύνων   τας   ψυχάς  ημών.

Τον  Σταυρόν ως θώρακα, ενδεδυμένος παμμάκαρ, των τυράννων ήμβλυνας,   τας   πονηράς  μεθοδείας·   ήνεγκας,   τας   ανυποίστους σαρκός   βασάνους·   ήνυσας,   τους   θείους   άθλους   γενναιοφρόνως·   δια    τούτο   εκοσμήθης,   θείω   στεφάνω   θεόθεν   Ούαρε.

Σύμμορφος εγένου τοις Αθληταίς, Ούαρε  τρισμάκαρ, αριστεύσας περιφανώς·   όθεν    ουρανίων,  αξιωθείς   χαρίτων,   υπέρμαχος    γνωρίζη,  τοις   σε   γεραίρουσι.

 

Saint Uaros the Martyr

 

 

A sharer of the warm and brave faith, which flourishes and works miracles in the great struggles and severe trials of the Church, Uaros, was a soldier from Tyana during the years of persecution under Diocletian. He served as a guard in the prisons where Christians were imprisoned. Their sufferings grieved him and their bravery kindled his faith more. He was also a Christian, but his superiors and fellow soldiers did not know it. Therefore, there was no suspicion against him and taking advantage of this, he managed to bring food to the martyrs, strengthen them and comfort them.

Once they brought six faithful venerable ascetics to prison. He was also seventh, but died on the road due to old age from the hardships. These prisoners, with the character of their words and manners, greatly influenced the soul of Uaros, so that he wanted to die with them. So when the judge asked them who their seventh companion is, Uaros shouted "here I am". And at the same time he began to proclaim that he was a Christian.

His officers tried in vain to persuade him. He begged the ascetics to pray to God to give him strength to endure the tortures which were very fierce. He finally won. He died unconverted. The next day the heads of the ascetics were also cut off.

At night Christian hands reverently buried the seven martyrs of the faith.
