Οι Άγιοι Τερέντιος και Νεονίλλη και τα τέκνα αυτών

 

Ήταν  μία πραγματική «κατ’ οίκον εκκλησία». Οικογένεια  αληθινά χριστιανική,   με   μια   ψυχή,   με   μια   καρδια   και   το   ίδιο   φρόνημα.

Όταν  άρχισε   ο   διωγμός  κατά   των  χριστιανών,  ειδοποίησαν  τους  δυο συζύγους  ότι  κινδυνεύουν  να  συλληφθούν.  Τότε  ο  Τερέντιος  και    η Νεονίλλη αναρωτήθηκαν να φύγουν μακριά, προκειμένου να προστατέψουν τα παιδιά τους ή να μείνουν και να περιμένουν με γενναιότητα   οποιοδήποτε   μαρτύριο;

Οι   πέντε  γιοί  και  οι   δύο   θυγατέρες   τους,   έδωσαν   αποφασιστική απάντηση.  Γιατί   να   φύγουν;  Ο   διωγμός   είχε   εξαπλωθεί   παντού. Έπειτα,  η   αναχώρησή  τους  θα  ενέσπειρε  τον  πανικό   στους   εκεί χριστιανούς.  Και  το  σπουδαιότερο,  η   Εκκλησία   δεν   ενισχύεται   από φυγάδες,  αλλά   από  μάρτυρες   και   αθλητές.       
Έτσι,   όλη   η   οικογένεια    αποφάσισε   να   μείνει   σταθερή   στην απόφασή   της.  Και   όλοι μαζί,   αφού   ομολόγησαν   τον   Χριστό, πέθαναν   με   αποκεφαλισμό.

Απολυτίκιον.  Ἠχος   γ’.  Θείας   πίστεως.~  
Νόμω  φύσεως,  συνδεδεμένοι,  κράτος   πίστεως,  ενδεδυμένοι,   μαρτυρίου   την   οδόν   διηνύσατε,   συν   Νεονίλλη   θεόφρον  Τερέντιε, και  η   των   Παίδων   υμών   επτάς   ένθεος.  Και    νυν    άφεσιν, αιτήσασθε   παμμακάριστοι,   τοις   μέλπουσιν    υμών   την   θείαν   άθλησιν.

Κοντάκιον.   Ήχος   δ’.   Ο    υψωθείς    εν    τω    Σταυρώ.           
Ως   συζυγία   ευσεβής   και   ομόφρων,   συν Τερεντίω   Νεονίλλα   τρισμάκαρ, λαμπρά χορεία ώφθητε Χριστώ τω Θεώ· πίστει γαρ εκθρέψαντες,   τους    σεπτούς   υμών   Παίδας,   τούτους    προσηγάγετε, λογικάς   ως  θυσίας,  ενηθληκότες   άμα   συν   αυτοίς,   τω   των    αιώνων,   Δσπότη   μακάριοι.

Μεγαλυνάριον.
Γενεά   ευθέων   ευλογητή,   ως   ο   Δαβίδ   έφη,   ανεδείχθητε   τω    Θεώ, Τερέντιε   μάκαρ,  συν   τοις   κλεινοίς  υιοίς   σου,   και    τη   συνεύνω   πίστει,   ανδραγαθήσαντες.

 

Saints Terentios and Neonilli and their children

 

It was a real "house church". A truly Christian family, with one soul, one heart and the same mindset.

When the persecution against the Christians began, they informed the two spouses that they were in danger of being arrested. Then Terentius and Neonille wondered whether they should go far away, in order to protect their children, or should they stay and wait bravely for any torment?

Their five sons and two daughters gave a decisive answer. Why should they leave? Persecution had spread everywhere. Then, their departure would inspire panic among the Christians there. And most importantly, the Church is not strengthened by fugitives, but by martyrs and athletes.

So the whole family decided to stick to their decision. And all together, after confessing Christ, died by beheading.
