Ο Άγιος Λουκάς ο Ευαγγελιστής

 

Καταγόταν από την Αντιόχεια της Συρίας.  Ήταν  γιατρός  στο  επάγγελμα,   όμως   γνώριζε   πολύ   καλά   τη   ζωγραφική   τέχνη. Μάλιστα   σε   αυτόν   αποδίδονται   οι    πρώτες   εικόνες    της    Θεοτόκου  με  τον   Ιησού  Χριστό   βρέφος  στην   αγκαλιά   της,  καθώς   και    αυτές  των    Αποστόλων    Πέτρου    και   Παύλου.

Στην   χριστιανική   πίστη   κατηχήθηκε   από    τον    Απόστολο   Παύλο  και    έκτοτε   αφοσιώθηκε   στο   κήρυγμα   του   Ευαγγελίου.   Περιόδευσε στη    Δαλματία,   Ιταλία,    Βοιωτία   κ.ά.

Συνέγραψε  το   τρίτο  κατά  σειρά  Ευαγγέλιο  της  Καινής Διαθήκης, καθώς  και   τις   πράξεις  των  Αποστόλων.  Αναπαύθηκε   ειρηνικά   σε ηλικία   80    ετών.         
Αργότερα    ο   γιος    του  Μεγάλου  Κωνσταντίνου,   ο   Κωνστάντιος διέταξε να μεταφερθεί το λείψανο του Ευαγγελιστού στην Κωνσταντινούπολη    και    να   τοποθετηθεί    κάτω   από   την   Αγία Τράπεζα   του    Ι. Ν.   των    Αγ. Αποστόλων,   μαζί   με   τα  λείψανα    των  Αποστόλων    Ανδρέου    και  Τιμοθέου.

Ακέστωρ   σοφώτατος,    ιερομύστα    Λουκά,    ζωγράφος    πανάριστος,  της    Θεοτόκου    Μητρός,    εδείχθης    Απόστολε·    έγραψας   μάκαρ λόγους,   δια   Πνεύματος    θείου·    έδωκας   εννοήσαι, συγκατάβασιν   άκραν,    Χριστού    της   παρουσίας·    διο    πρέσβευε    σωθήναι    ημάς.

Μαθητής γενόμενος του Θεού Λόγου, συν τω Παύλω   άπασαν, εφωταγώγησας   τηv  γην,   και   την   αχλύν   απεδίωξας,   το   θείον γράψας,   Χριστού    Ευαγγέλιον.

Μακαρίζομέν    σου   την   δεξιάν,   Λουκά    θεηγόρε,   δι’  ής   έχομεν    οι πιστοί,   τας   του   Θεού   Λόγου,   διττάς    αγίας   πλάκας,   και   την σεπτήν    Εικόνα,   της   Θεομήτορος.

 

Saint Luke the Evangelist

 

He came from Antioch in Syria. He was a doctor by profession, but he knew the art of painting very well. In fact, the first images of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus Christ in her arms are attributed to him, as well as those of the Apostles Peter and Paul.

He was indoctrinated in the Christian faith by the Apostle Paul and since then devoted himself to the preaching of the Gospel. He toured Dalmatia, Italy, Boeotia etc.

He wrote the third Gospel of the New Testament, as well as the Acts of the Apostles. He rested peacefully at the age of 80.

Later, the son of Constantine the Great, Constantius ordered the Evangelist's relic to be transferred to Constantinople and placed under the Holy Altar of I. N. of Saints. Apostles, together with the relics of the Apostles Andrew and Timothy.

Being a disciple of God's Word, along with Paul the Apostle, you lit up the earth, and chased away the unclean, you wrote the divine, Christ's Gospel.
