Οι Άγιοι Αγαθόδωρος, Αιθέριος, Βασιλέας, Ελπίδιος, Ευγένιος, Εφραίμ και Καπίτων οι Ιερομάρτυρες

 

Επί  της βασιλείας του αυτοκράτορα Διοκλητιανού (284 – 305 μ.Χ.) ο Πατριάρχης  Ιεροσολύμων  Έρμων (300 – 314 μ.Χ.) απέστειλε στη  Σκυθία τον  Επίσκοπο  Άγιο Εφραίμ και  στη  Χερσώνα τον Επίσκοπο Άγιο Βασιλέα, με  σκοπό την διάδοση του  Χριστιανισμού. Ο  Άγιος Βασιλέας επειδή  κήρυττε  τον   Χριστό,    εκδιώχθηκε από  τους  ειδωλολάτρες. Όμως   και  πάλι  προσκλήθηκε από  τον ηγεμόνα του τόπου και  ανέστησε, κατά   τον   Συναξαριστή,  τον  υιό  του. Από  το   γενόμενο θαύμα  και  ο  άρχοντας   και    πλήθος    λαού  πίστεψαν   στον  Χριστό   και βαπτίσθηκαν. Οι ειδωλολάτρες  όμως  εξεμάνησαν και  τον  συνέλαβαν.  Τον  έδεσαν    και   τον  έσυραν  από  τα  πόδια,  και  συρόμενος    πέθανε.

Αλλά     και    ο   Άγιος  Εφραίμ,   ενώ    δίδασκε  το  Ευαγγέλιο,  συνελήφθη    από   τους    ειδωλολάτρες    και    αποκεφαλίσθηκε.

Μετά  τον μαρτυρικό θάνατο του  Αγίου Βασιλέως απεστάλησαν στη  Χερσώνα   οι    Επίσκοποι   Αγαθόδωρος,   Ελπίδιος  και   Καπίτων   ως  κήρυκες    του  Ευαγγελίου  και  της πίστεως,  αλλά  και  αυτοί  φονεύθηκαν   από    τους   άπιστους.   
Στην συνέχεια απεστάλη υπό  του  Πατριάρχη  Ιεροσολύμων  ο  Επίσκοπος   Αιθέριος,    ο  οποίος μόλις  είδε  τον εθνικό  λαό εξαγριωμένο,   κατέφυγε   στον   Μέγα   Κωνσταντίνο  και  ζήτησε  την απέλαση   των   ειδωλολατρών   από  τη   Χερσώνα,  πράγμα  το  οποίο  έγινε.    Αφού    δε   ο   Άγιος    ανήγειρε   εκεί    ναό,   μετέβη  στον  βασιλέα,   για    να    τον   ευχαριστήσει.    Όμως    κατά   την    επιστροφή του    τον    συνέλαβαν   και    τον   έπνιξαν   στον   ποταμό   Δνείπερο.

Επτάριθμος   σύλλογος,  Ιεραρχών  ιερών,   αγώσιν   αθλήσεως, την   Εκκλησίαν Χριστού,   ενθέως   εφαίδρυναν, Ευγένιος Βασιλεύς τε, συν   Εφραίμ  Αιθερίω,   Ελπίδιος και   Καπίτων,   Αγαθόδωρος   άμα.   Αυτών Χριστέ    ικεσίαις,   πάντας    ελέησον.

Τα   θαύματα των   αγίων   σου   Μαρτύρων,   τείχος   ακαταμάχητον   ημίν δωρησάμενος, Χριστέ   ο   Θεός,   ταις   αυτών   ικεσίαις  βουλάς   εθνών διασκέδασον, της βασιλείας τα σκήπτρα κραταίωσον,   ως μόνος   αγαθός   και   φιλάνθρωπος.

Κοντάκιον.   Ήχος   πλ. δ’.  Ως   απαρχάς   της   φύσεως.           
Ώσπερ  αστέρες  άδυτοι, της  νοητής   ελλάμψεως,  τους  εν  νυκτί   της  απάτης καθεύδοντας, υιούς φωτός εδείξατε, Ευγένιε και  Καπίτων, Αγαθόδωρε   Βασιλεύ   και  Αιθέριε, Εφραίμ  συν  Ελπιδίω,  αθλήσαντες  ως   αήττητοι.

Θύσαντες  θυσίαν  την λογικήν,  ως του Θεού Λόγου, Ιεράρχαι  πανευκλεείς, έμψυχοι  τω  Κτίστη, προσήχθητε  θυσίαι,  αθλητικώς Πατέρες  αγωνισάμενοι.

 

The Saints Agathodoros, the Ecumenical, the King, the Elder, the Eugene, the Ephraim and the Captain the Holy Martyrs

 

 

On the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284-305 AD) the Patriarch of Jerusalem Hermon (300-314 AD) sent Scythia the Bishop of St. Ephraim and in Cherson the Bishop of the Holy King, in order to spread Christianity. The Holy King, because he preached Christ, was driven out by the idolaters. But again, he was invited by the ruler of the place and raised, according to the Synagogue, his son. From the miracle that was born, and the ruler and crowd of people believed in Christ and were baptized. The idolaters, however, have been exalted and arrested. They tied him up and dragged him out of his legs, and he slumped dead.

But Saint Ephraim, while he taught the Gospel, was arrested by the idolaters and beheaded.

After the martyrdom of the Holy King, the Bishops Agathodoros, Epidides and Kapitas were sent to Cherson as preachers of the Gospel and faith, but they were also killed by the unbelievers.

Then he was sent by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Bishop Etherius, who just saw the national people furious, resorted to Constantine the Great and called for the expulsion of the idolaters from Cherson, which was done. After the Saint had raised a temple there, he went to the king to thank him. But on his return he was arrested and drowned him on the Dnieper River.
