Ο Όσιος Άνθιμος ο νέος ασκητής

 

Γεννήθηκε    στο    Ληξούρι    της    Κεφαλονιάς   το    1727    και    πέθανε   το    1782    (κατ’ άλλους    το    1781).   Επτά     μόλις   χρονών    έχασε    το   φως   του   και    το    ξαναβρήκε θαυματουργικά,  χάρη των προσευχών    της    μητέρας    του,   Αντζουλέττας.

Αλλά    εξ’    αιτίας    της    σκληρής   μοναχικής    του    ζωής   το    ξανά   έχασε   και    πήγε στο   Άγιον    Όρος.   Παρά   την   τύφλωσή   του,   ανέπτυξε    σπουδαίο   κηρυκτικό και    ιεραποστολικό    έργο    και    μάλιστα   έκτισε   πολλές    Μονές    σε    διάφορα   μέρη.   
Φέρεται   σαν   προστάτης    της    Αστυπάλαιας    και   εκδόθηκε    Ακολουθία    του    το     1911    από    τον   Εμμανουήλ    Καρασέλο.    Επίσης    έκανε   πολλά    θαύματα     και από    την     Ορθόδοξη    Εκκλησία    αγιοποιήθηκε    στις    30    Ιουλίου    1974.

Της     Πάλλῃς     το    βλάστημα,    Κεφαλληνίας     πυρσόν,    τον    θείον    δομήτορα    της     των     Λεπέδων     Μονής,    φαιδρώς     ευφημήσωμεν,    Άνθιμον    τον    ασκήσει    τον εχθρόν     καθελόντα,    χάριν    δε    ιαμάτων    εκ    Κυρίου     λαβόντα,    πρεσβεύοντα εκτενώς    ημάς   διασώζεσθαι.

 

Saint Anthimos the new ascetic

 

 

He was born in Lixouri of Kefalonia in 1727 and died in 1782 (according to others in 1781). At just seven years old, he lost his light and miraculously found it again, thanks to the prayers of his mother, Anjouletta.

But because of his hard lonely life he lost it again and went to Mount Athos. Despite his blindness, he developed an important preaching and missionary work and even built many monasteries in various places.

He is said to be the patron saint of Astypalea and his Sequence was published in 1911 by Emmanuel Caraselos. He also performed many miracles and was canonized by the Orthodox Church on July 30, 1974.
